Last night, Ghostbusters director and producer Ivan Reitman told MTV that a second sequel to Ghostbusters was on the way. According to Reitman, the second draft of a script from “Year One” writers Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky was in the works, and that he would be returning to direct.
“Good work is being done and all of us have our fingers crossed,” Reitman said, though he declined to say what precisely that ‘good work’ encompassed, nor would he comment on any of actress Sigourney Weaver’s speculation about the fate of Bill Murray’s character Pete Venkman, whom Weaver claimed might be a ghost in the new film.
When speaking about any kind of schedule, he told MTV “I hope to start shooting in this next year,” lending credence to writer/star Harold Ramis’ recent comments about a planned 2011 release.
